Autumn Trends 2025
We have been blessed to have a lot of properly hot days this summer and the contrast since the end of the school holidays, has been quite marked. The days are getting shorter and our natural desire is to make our interiors cosy ready for the winter months ahead.
Comfort is key in the latest furniture trends with a return to curved sofas with sumptuously deep cushions just right for curling up to read. I have heard it said that people aren’t buying books any more but it doesn’t seem to be entirely true; one of the latest trends in interiors is the library. For sure, not every home has room for a library, but the current trend is for a personal reading nook with cocooning armchair to create a little sanctuary within the home. Shelving is less curated and more personal with treasured memories along side books and journals.
Fabrics
Adding texture to a room is a quick and easy way of instantly making the room more cosy and less clinical. This season we are seeing layering of contrasting textures ; smooth leathers combined with brushed velvet to add warmth. Boucle and teddy fabrics in warm whites and pale neutrals are still popular alongside accent chairs with statement furniture in stronger jewelled colours.
Biophilic design influences many of the trends this season with warmer colour palettes consisting of grounding earthy browns, café colours, terracotta and rust combined with natural materials and textures appealing to our innate appreciation of nature.
Sustainability
The choice of natural materials leans towards more sustainable products like cork, which is a warm yet durable material. Clients are choosing furniture of quality that will stand the test of time and be loved for many years to come. At last – a move away from the throw-away society!
Colour Palettes
Café colours and accents include buttery yellows and stronger mustard-ochre hues reminiscent of the 1970’s. At the forefront of this retro revival of colour are burnt oranges which complement beautifully the deep chocolate browns. Amber glassware and pumpkin accessories are perfect for creating the cosy autumnal ambience. Another continuing trend is for Art Deco but with a contemporary twist. Art Deco influences are seen in furniture design as well as in the rich colour palettes of deep red and green punctuated with metallic accents for statement wallpapers.
Ceiling décor
Ornate ceilings with plaster work for ceiling roses and textured and wallpapered ceilings are reemerging
Kitchen cabinets
Timeless shaker styles and contemporary slab doors both see a move away from stark white towards warmer off-whites and creams. Two- tone kitchens continue to be popular in two different darker and lighter paint finishes but we are increasingly seeing combinations of warm woods and painted finishes particularly in the contemporary slab door styles. We will continue to see Greens from palest pistachio through to deep forest greens.
Kitchen Design
Kitchen design choices are all about the client’s personal style and way of life. Islands for entertaining, for breakfast and for homework time feature strongly still.
The pantry breakfast bar has increased in popularity for a neat way of concealing toasters and coffee machines etc
The traditional pantry is growing in size and popularity with walk- in larders and utility rooms being concealed behind furniture from the main kitchen. Hidden “Dirty” kitchens for where the work really happens enclosed behind larder doors from the socializing area of the main kitchen.
